Cambridge Vloggers at ACS Access Conference 2018 | #GoingToCambridge

It is challenging and I documented all
of that so that people like yourselves can look at that and be like: ‘If she
went there, I really could go there.’ Somebody I saw who inspired me today was
Ibz Mo, I watch a lot of his YouTube videos. I saw from his GCSE video, his A-Level
video to his degree videos in Cambridge. His story, where he came from his
background is kinda similar to us. So yeah that inspired me as well. Also Courtney Daniella. Oh yeah Courtney Daniella! I was really fortunate to see her come
to my school two years ago for a Black History Month celebration and
she really inspired us all, encouraged us. When I graduated nearly two months ago. Phew! It was an emotional day! I brought all my family, I was able to
get like nine tickets and I’m Ghanaian, so everyone was rolling around just doing: ‘Wow this is where you’ve been
living! Oh my god!’ But for me that was such an amazing
moment because my mum had never seen buildings like that. Personally the biggest society I’ve been
part of is my College student societies. like the JCR they call it, the student body. I’m vice president of mine when we
have Ramadan, I’m at the table so I went to all the council meetings,
sit with my president, the bursar, the head bursar, the senior tutor and
I said: ‘Okay this is what we’re gonna do. Ramadan is coming up it means this;
you’re gonna open the canteen till late, you’re gonna open the gym an hour early,
you’re gonna close it an hour late, you’re gonna have this food here,
this cutlery’s gonna be here.’ And I was just unapologetically like me.
I was like: ‘We’re gonna do this.’ And they listened, sometimes to make the
biggest change you’ve got to play the game. I would say to be on those committees
where you can facilitate change on professional level because
that’s where they listen to you. As Ibz was saying it’s up to us
to be that change. I dunno who it was who said they were
rolling around in a tracksuit? That was me, that is me! I went to
exams in tracksuits as well actually. And you are world-changers, I
changed my mum’s world that day I remember at the end of my graduation
I received a bag and on it says: ‘The people that come into Cambridge
change Cambridge but the people who leave Cambridge change the world.’ And I want you to know that; you are
world-changers, you are world-shakers, you are rule-breakers, you are all
of the rhyming words. You are all of that. A lot of people go into this mindset of:
‘Oh my friend’s are going to be graduating that year, oh I’m gonna be left begin.’ According to whose standard? Who
told you that? Nobody should ever tell you that you cannot do something.
The only person who can tell you that is you. I wish you all of the best; keep on fighting,
keep on working and keep on hustling because if you don’t hustle you
don’t eat! That’s all I have to tell you.
