Student societies Cambridge University: Refugee Scholarship Campaign, Majlis, St John’s JCR, CamFM

So the Cambridge Refugee
Scholarship Campaign is a system that tries
to implement a sustainable way of having
scholarships for refugees and other individuals
affected by political and humanitarian crises So my favourite part is
liaising with applicants and seeing their emails [inaudible] and I have literally cried every single time I have
seen one So what inspired me to join was in 2017 it was a group of just students
who deeply cared about how the refugee crisis had affected people and so we
started to lobby the University, and after speaking with the Vice-Chancellor
and other individuals in the University, they created the Rowan Williams
Cambridge Studentship They decided that there would be
a very wide range of applicants So it’s anyone affected by
political or humanitarian crises obviously including refugees and IDPs and since then, we have worked to create
a mentorship scheme with project access and we created project access for
refugees which aims to help people guide them through the application process
of the University and how to help them when they get here and the
first people will be coming in in October this year If you want to know more about us
please check out the Cambridge Refugee Scholarship Campaign The Cambridge Majlis was originally
founded in 1891 as a forum for South Asians
at the University and in the city of Cambridge
to host debates and political discussions regarding socio-political
issues in the region during the British colonial era During the 1970s, it kind of disbanded and this year we have
managed to relaunch it Given the current political
tensions in the region between the countries of India, Pakistan and
Bangladesh which were once one It inspired me and a group of
other like-minded individuals at the University to restart the society so
that we can hold discussions that promote peace within the region In the coming year, we
would like to see the Cambridge Majlis grow into a society
that not only hosts political figures from the region to come to the
University of Cambridge and give talks and their opinion on current political
issues of the region but we would also like to see it develop into a forum that hosts impartial debates and discussions about issues that are very
important to de-escalate tensions among the three countries in the region Hi, I’m Amy I am a first year medical student at St John’s College, Cambridge I am the JCR access officer which is the Junior Combination

done when we want to We have the resources and the support of the committee around us to actually make a difference As Access Officer, I will be
