Your future remastered: Aim high with a postgraduate degree | Oxford Brookes University

There were a variety of things that got me into Social Work. There was the idea that my parents had been fostering ever since we were quite young and we had this exposure to social workers and we
were also almost exposed to this entire new world of fostering of learning from
the young people that came in and out of our lives, many of them were asylum
seekers and I think I got to learn from that quite a lot. I decided to study a
masters at Brookes because the social workers that I dealt with, who had come in and out of our house through the fostering process that we’d been involved in it was their recommendation so I remember telling them that I was interested in Social Work, that I wanted to get more experience and I wanted to
find out what the best route was into Social Work and they told me about Brookes. I am working as a teaching fellow at the moment within the department that I did my masters in, so it’s nice being back. I’m happy that I’m contributing to my academic side which I quite enjoy, but it’s also nice almost feeling like you’re giving back to the department that helped you so much. There’s lots of
things I would like to do for the future one of them is that I would like to do a PhD, and maybe way into the future I would like to get back into the field and work with asylum seekers and refugees, and potentially set up a charity but that’s just a potential dream
